Supervises telecommunications
staff and assigned offender workers.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Directs activities involved in the design,
installation, operation, and maintenance of statewide and local recreation
communication systems.
2. Reviews and recommends approval of
preliminary plans and installation of radio/electronic recreation communication
systems.
3. Directs the training of staff in the use of
electronic testing equipment to diagnose and solve telecommunication problems.
4. Coordinates installation, operation, and
maintenance of recreation communication systems among agencies, departments,
and units.
5. Provides technical assistance on problems
concerning recreation communication equipment.
6. Initiates and directs surveys, noise-level
measurements, evaluations of directional antenna characteristics, and
interference determinations.
7. Supervises the distribution of all
telecommunication supplies and equipment.
8. Assists in the development of the annual
budget for recreation communication.
9. Performs duties in a professional manner
through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
10. Performs duties in a professional, ethical,
and responsible manner as defined in the SBEC Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas
Educators.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED
equivalent and five years of full-time, wage earning experience in the design,
installation, operation, and maintenance of radio/electronic communication
systems and equipment. Certificate of
Completion from an accredited trade or vocational institution in electronic
servicing, electronic repair, radio communication electronics, or related field
required.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of agency, departmental, and unit
communication/recreation policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of current basic electronics and
radio communication systems and equipment.
Knowledge of current policies and Federal Communications Commission
regulations pertaining to radio communications. Skill in planning, organizing, and coordinating work among staff
members, other departments and/or agencies regarding the design, installations,
operations, and maintenance of radio systems.
Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Skill to operate specialized communications
test equipment.
