An Empathic Helping Skills Program
See here: Maness-1997-Dissertation
Part of the doctoral requirements for New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary, this dissertation reported upon and evaluated
a program developed to teach inmates "empathy." After
detailed analysis, it was proved that empathy could be taught to prisoners.
In substantiating the need for the program, the author researched the history of relevant in-prison programming in U.S. history relating to prison inmate growth and chronicled. Chapters 1-4 will be of interest to the specialist in in-prison programming, for therein is a significant portion of the history with a special focus upon Texas.
The program itself was culled from most of the best teachers of basic "Empathy" and "Helping Skills" up to 1997. Of interest to lay persons will be Appendixes 3a & 3b, which contain the handouts of all the lessons -- the major substance of the developed program.
